With an area of just 178 square miles (465km2), it takes just a couple of hours to drive the island using the few roads available. Although Bonaire is small, with so much to see and do it would take you years to find your fill of adventure! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or regular to the island, the list of activities, experiences, and nature to immerse yourself in is never exhausted.

Nature Watching: See wild life in its’ natural setting on land, sea, and in air.

Bonaire is one of the most beautiful islands in the Dutch Caribbean so sightseeing is a must. Wherever you are, make sure to keep an eye out for Bonaire’s most colorful resident (and national bird) the flamingo, either in flight or wading in one of the saliñas. Don’t forget your camera because our nature is one of the island’s finest attributes! Bonaire is home to a variety of free-roaming wildlife including iguanas and many types of lizards, birds such as parrots, parakeets, herons, pelicans, and terns, and last but not least, donkeys.

Washington Slagbaai National Park: Discover the crown jewel of Bonaire above water

Rugged and undeveloped, Washington Slagbaai National Park is a great place to spend a day exploring over 13,500 acres of off the beaten path beaches, nature sites and a small museum. As soon as you pass the gate into this immense park located on the northernmost tip of the island, you enter a completely different world. A short (1.5 hours, 15 miles/24 km) and a long (2.5 hours, 22 miles/35 km) route are at your disposal. Ready for a swim? The sandy beach at Wayaka might be small, but it’s a great spot for sunbathing and snorkeling.

Scuba Diving: Let us take you on a Bonaire scuba diving adventure you will not forget!

Bonaire offers 24/7, 365 days a year, scuba diving in a pristine underwater environment. Our island is an award-winning scuba dive destination that accommodates every skill level, from beginner to advanced diver. There are 63 official dive sites on Bonaire and 26 more on Klein Bonaire, of which 54 are shore dive sites. With more than 350 fish species and 57 species of soft and stony coral, an underwater paradise awaits you.

As a Bonaire dive center, we can show you the most beautiful dive spots and take you out for a Bonaire scuba diving experience that you will never forget. We offer professional guides and only dive in groups of max 4 persons so we can give everybody the attention they need! Run by divers, serving divers, we love what we do best: introducing people to the world of diving and showing them the breathtaking underwater world of Bonaire.

Windsurf / Kite Board/ Kayak / SUP: No matter how you like your water, you can find your fix here.

If you’re talking about “What to do in Bonaire”, we have to address another natural attribute that is constant and reliable — Bonaire’s easterly trade winds. Bonaire has been recognized as one of the best places in the world to windsurf for novice through professional levels.  Additionally, kiteboarding enthusiasts can be found at Atlantis Beach almost daily. Looking for something less active? Then take a water taxi to the inhabitant island Klein Bonaire or enjoy a romantic sunset sailing trip, or kayak through the mangroves. If there’s a water activity you love, you’re sure to find it on Bonaire.

Ostracod Night Dive: Experience magic beyond your wildest dreams.

If you’ve seen the movie Avatar, then you are primed to watch parts of this movie come to life in nature. The ostracod experience is a magical event and not to be missed if you’re on the island during this time. A few nights after every full moon, (male) ostracods give a light show under water. This fluorescent light attracts female ostracods. You can only see this tiny marine organism with its bioluminescence in the dark. It’s a spectacular phenomenon and we at Beyond the Corals love to share this special experience with our guests. We know the best spots to watch the magic and will guide you on an experience never to be forgotten.
