Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire
Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire is just around the corner from Beyond The Corals. At Beyond The Corals we think nature conservation is not only important in the marine environment, but also on land. Furthermore, we educate the staff at the sanctuary about diving and ocean conservation through our discover scuba diving program, because we take our role as marine ambassadors seriously.
Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire is an organization dedicated to ensuring a secure life for the donkeys on Bonaire. The organization offers information about the living conditions of donkeys to island residents, schools and tourists. At the moment, the sanctuary is home to over 800 donkeys. They are provided with food, drinking water and medical care as well as lots of space to roam free.
When a report is received of a wild donkey in need – volunteers readily head out to help the animal. Sick and injured animals are cared for at the shelter by trained veterinarians, and will be lovingly cared for once they have recovered. Hundreds of donkeys have been rescued from the streets of the island since the opening of the sanctuary, and happily live out their days being cared for.
