Bonaire’s Climate and Weather Overview
No matter what time of year you visit Bonaire, the tropical climate remains consistent. The island is typically warm and humid, with a constant eastward wind blowing throughout most of the year, except for September and October when the wind tends to reduce. Bonaire experiences both a dry and wet season, with the wet season occurring between October and December, and the dry season between January and September.
Temperature and Sun Protection
The average temperature on the island hovers around 85 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 degrees Celsius, with ocean temperatures ranging from 78 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 degrees Celsius in February to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius in October. While a short wetsuit is sufficient for most diving activities, it’s important to protect your skin from the intense sun exposure. As the island lies near the equator, it’s advisable to always wear sun protection. “Reef-safe” sunscreen is recommended to protect the coral reef, along with hats and rash guards.
The sun and the moon…
They influence more than just the weather. On Bonaire, you can witness the Ostracods—one of the most extraordinary experiences you’ll ever have. It is an underwater light show and a truly special dive. Our Dive PROs know exactly what’s needed to ensure you experience this phenomenon at its very best, and we’d be delighted to guide you through it.
The ideal timing for an Ostracod dive is determined by the phases of the moon and the sun. Beyond the Corals has developed an automated calendar to predict these moments with precision. On the green calendar days and times, your chances of witnessing this magical phenomenon are at their peak.
